Any one have any experience with this? Our school (private) was offered a bee hive to complement our gardening program (I keep bees at home). We happily agreed, the bees and hive are ordered, the kids are all excited... and today our administrator tells me our insurance company says it will cancel our policy if we get the hive!?!?!? I know I've heard of schools, public and private with hives. Is there some kind of workaround for this? We are very disappointed at the moment!

Maybe you could get a separate insurance policy. I have up to $2,000,000 through Secura for selling honey if anybody gets sick/stung/chokes on glass ect...for $284/yr. I'm also LLC so don't know if that affected the rate or not, but might be worth looking into, being that it's a school I'm guessing you'll be out of luck. Even if you get insurance I'm sure some parent will freak out and cause a ruckus.

Insurance companies are weird.   Mine came to us last summer and said we had to take the hives off the back porch but did not say a thing about all the hives in the woods and the back yard.  (There are still on my back porch) :-D

FYI, in case anyone has the same trouble - our insurance agent told us that he can find another insurer to write us a policy to cover the bees - so, problem solved, thankfully.
