My neighbor got a beehive at a local auction for $10 about 8 months ago.  We've been talking about getting some bees and we finally did.  We watched a few videos on Youtube and got our bees in the hive with no problems.  We were having an issue with fire ants right away. I googled the problem and found out that we could put the hive on a table with the table legs inside tuna cans filled with vegetable oil to deal with the ants.  So far so good.

I'm looking forward to learning more about these amazing creatures.  I'm also looking forward to having better pollination in my garden this year.  :)

Welcome to the Wide World of Bees.  Ants can  be a problem.  Good luck with your hives.

Welcome to the forum, Tapq.  Good luck to you and your bees.

I spent a few days up there in the middle 60's.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.  Just to update, the vegetable oil filled tuna cans stopped the fire ants from getting into my hive.  I haven't had any ants getting in the hive since I did that.  I put a couple of videos on Youtube.  The first video is me and my neighbor putting our new bees into our hive.  The second video is checking the hive and removing the queen cage.  You can find my videos on Youtube using keywords: tapq, bees.
