What do you all think about using this wood for top and/or bottom boards? think the scent will be too strong for the bees?  :) d2

Heart pine? No problem for the bees but if it is pretty wood it would be a waste of quality wood.

One of the 10 ft boards was red almost all the way. I have already cut it the desired length for bottom boards. :'(  ;) :) d2

I have been making supers out of some 1x8x12's of old heart pine.  I usually make BB and tops out of plywood.

I pick up furniture people have on the curb and turned it all into tops/bottoms.  Some of the dressers are scented with horrid smelling perfumes.  Never had any problems...  It is nice to have one piece tops instead of gluing boards together.  Painting also tends to seal in the stink, ripe pine has never posed a problem for me either.

I use pine 2x4's for making screened bottom boards.
I also use rough cut 1x12's and plane it down to 3/4 inch thick.
I get my best lumber from the saw mills.
