Another Newbie saying hello

Wow, it's finally that time in my life. I have been obsessing over keeping bees since I as a child and now that I am semi-retired and will be moving to a house with property I can finally live out one of my lifelong dreams. Lots of great info here and I look forward to reading most of it, and hearing everyone's advice. remember how excited you were? I'm there. :)

Yes I do remember how excited I was when I started 2006. It has been a wonderful adventure, all consuming, always joyful.

Welcome and the odds of being allergic to bee stings are right up there with winning the lottery. Feeling swelling in the throat is about all you have to really worry about and it is best to put a bottle of liquid benedryl in the bucket or box you take your tools to the bee yard in. Expect swelling around sting for a good while. That is not an allergy and will diminish in time. Stings never quit hurting though, but quit mattering. I had bees when a child and now am retired and enjoying them again. It is great fun.

Currently in San Diego, will be moving to property in Connecticut. No allergies to bees. :)

I was stationed at Imperial Beach before they closed the base. I have watched Kirk Andersons videos, Backwards beekeeping, think hes in LA.

I never did worry about getting tested to find out if i was allergic, I knew it would only be a matter of time till I found out. ;)

I must have won the lottery. I have been tested and I am allergic. My doctor says although anaphylaxis is rare. THose who have an allergy ( higher sensitivity) are at the highest risk and should be prepared. Through immunization therapy I hope to become allergy free. It takes about 3-5 years for that to happen. I'm not saying to be fearful just be prepared.
