Im ready for a change in the weather. Its 40 degrees
Its blowing 30 with gusts to 45 and raining sideways.
There are whitecaps in my toilet bowl for crying out loud.
If it blows any harder the hurricaine center will names this.
At least it not ice or snow but Lake Atlantic is coming
over the sand dunes. :soapbox:

You didn't invent wind over there lad!  I understand how old it gets.  It is supposed to be sixty Sunday and the wind will be in the forties.  It gets really old and crazymaking here too.

We do get some bad weather also, just not as cold or windy for so long as you guys.  I have lots more neighbors now than I used to.  Folks are always getting closer, use to be a mile to next door neighbor, now there are some just 1/4 mile.  This year we have had snow, sleet, rain and wind, temps in the teens and near 80  and that is just so far this year.  Heck we have had all that I think in a week. ha ha

Count your blessings. We have trees and power lines doun over 4 or 5 counties. Thousands without power. My power went out this morning at 2:30. No power means no heat, no water, no way to cook, or even make coffee. Don't expect it back until Sunday or Monday. Ice 1/2 or 3/4 inch on all tree limbs.

If you don't already have one, treat yourself to a generator. Then get a propane conversion kit for it, go to yard sales and buy the newer tanks for no more than $8, take it to Wal Mart and get it refilled for about $17 or $18 bucks. Knowing I have coffee every morning is worth the price of a generator :-D

 We got hit by an ice storm up here about 5 years ago that knocked the power out for 7 or 8 days. A generator is a must have.  Just make sure that you pay the extra to have it wired correctly and legally.
I would rather you go without coffee than to have you burn down the house, or worse, trying to brew it.

We had a gust recorded at 61 a while ago in Avon at the pier.
Maybe March is coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb.

We will keep you all in our prayers.  I got a generator when Katrina came through.  Living out in the country, and being one of the last ones on our power line, I have gas heat, hot water, and stove.  That's why I book my gas also.  Also have a gas grill with two tanks, and I get them filled by the propane company I get gas from.  They just charge me for the amount of propane, not so much to fill or exchange tanks.  I try to have regular gas for the generator.  There is a local store that has it, not ethanol.  Hope you all get heat soon.

The gas (propane) folks we use connected our grill to the main line coming into the house. Wife got tired of cooking then stopping mid stream to swap tanks.

Get a wood stove!  The day may come when the utilities don't come back on people.......just saying...  :-\

.......Power outages occur frequently up here (year round).....sometimes we don't even notice.....until someone opens the fridge and the light is out  :laugh:.

A wood stove will keep you warm, cook your food, brew your coffee/tea and heat up your bath water.  WOOD is GOOD.  :)  An added benefit is that cutting and hauling your own will keep you fit and trim.  ;)

Had to get rid of the wood fired water stove when I was no longer able to fill it even after someone else cut, split and stacked it.

Have propane heaters.

Have a small 1850 watt gen. for short times.

Have a 15 and a 30 KW gen for longer times. If the power don't come on by Monday morning I will hook one of the big ones up. Both run off the tractor PTO. I'm doing fine, but there's a lot of folks around here not doing so well.

Only reason I decided to move to Fl?   I came down during a freeze and my Mom had a woodstove going strong...all windows open..Loved it.
I have a woodstove on my back porch. Enclosed with 4 sliding patio doors...can be a screen room or enclosed. That is what we heat with...lots of pot roast, stew,chili and spaghetti sauce during the winter.
If power goes out during a hurricane...we can still eat.
We cut and split our own wood.

Cool - Wood is one of our most abundant natural and renewable resources.  I still split wood - even from my wheelchair - getting it inside can be problematic - but I have Sons close by  :)
