I have made some swarm traps and thinking about putting them out soon.  I am baiting them with old colmb, foundation topped off with lemongrass oil. My question is how long will the lemongrass oil application last? If reapplying is needed how often?

Thanks in advance!

Good question. There seems to be some concern about overdoing it and running them off. I have a couple of swarm traps out with maybe one or two drops internally and several around the outside with the least amoutn around the entrance. This is my first year putting out swarm traps so I couldn't tell you if I done right or wrong, but I'll sho let you know if I catch a swarm :-D

Lots of different thoughts and techniques on this one, but I think the concensus is that a little bit goes a long way.   Some put a few drops directly I to the trap, some put it on a cotton ball inside a pill box or something with a few small holes in it. Others use the end of a a-tip, I use Bailey's technique and seal it up in a plastic pipette.   Not sure about the others, but with the pipette method, the smell will last for months.

Good luck. 😊

Send bud1 a pm and ask how much. He uses a pill bottle with cotton. He is a big swam catcher.

I'm with SC, every swarm trap we checked at Bud's had a swarm in it.

I am in Central Arkansas and have around 50 swarm traps out.
Every time I get a swarm call I set up a swarm trap.
I made mine from pressed fiber pots 12x11 size.
I got them from Greenhouse Megastore on line.
I bought 32 for $55.00 which made 32b
I cut a piece of old comb about 4 inches wide x 8 inches long and glued it in the back pot.
I filled all the holes except 1 with spray foam.
I cut a large diameter soda straw (like they use at Sonic) in to 2 inch strips and stuffed it half full of cotton.
I put 5 drops of lemon grass oil on the cotton and finished filling the 2 inch straw with cotton.
I pin it inside the trap towards the back.
I bait them about every 3 weeks or so.
Then I just take an old broom or mop handle and drill a hole in the end big enough to stick a Que Tip stick in the hole.
I saturate the cotton swab and walk around and smear some around the entrance to the trap.
Here is a picture of one I took down this morning.
