Just curious, anybody know why they wouldn't use smoke instead of water?

They don't even try to save them. That is a lot of bees to disperse into the local area. Would love to have some hives near it to collect all of those extra bees. You would bee putting on supers like crazy during a good flow. I talked to a couple of firefighters at the fire station near my home and in this situation they use foam and cover all of the equipment to kill every one of them.

Think of how many would just be there for the picking up. Quite a loss for the beekeeper.

My niece is visiting us. She lives just an hour north of this area. She said that they have put up swarm warning signs all around this area.
Time for Philly beeks to get out the swarm traps. Bet you can get some huge swarms in this area.

This seems to happen every year.  Are beeks are accident prone or what?

The most irritating thing about the news report is the stupid newscaster's intro: "a bee attack". There was no bee attack the only people stung were the idiots that flipped the truck.

They have to scare you into staying on their channel while you watch their commercials. :-x
The news does not have to be true any more. They just have to have their ratings.

I heeard an interview today with an entomologist from University of Delaware. She was there and said they did smoke the bees and stack the boxes back up that they could, used a forklift to put them on another truck and saved quite a few, but that the loss was put at $250,000, including the lost pollination contracts.  She also said companies are developing good climate-controlled enclosed trailers to transport bees that will help avoid this kind of problem.  Now if they can just find better drivers :hissyfit:

I use to drive a big truck. It's hard to be a good drive when a d.a. pulls directly out in front of you then puts their left blinker on and you're doing 45 or 55 with or without a load.

Then again, I wonder how some of those drivers got their licenses. I had one (bob tail) get behind me on a country road. He could have passed me but chose to see how close he could get to my bumper. You know what that means don't ya? BRAKE CHECK!!!!

After that he kept a safe distance behind me.

Hey Jim,

It's a semi truck not pulling a trailer.

Duh. You can tell that I was never a truck driver.  :-D
Thanks.

This may be getting a little off topic, but...I think it can also mean a big boxy truck like a U-Haul driven by a non-trucker like you and me, Jim, that doesn't understand how real truckers pulling a heavy load can't react like a 4-wheeler.  A truck doesn't make us a trucker.

GSF, I thought the problem was drivers in FRONT of a trucker, not BEHIND them  :-D

Never been a trucker, put I did ride with a trucker to haul back some heavy machinery back from Grand Rapids.  It had the uneasy feeling of a freight train on the road!  So much mass in motion is scary.  Gave me new respect for the truckers.

I am guilty of drafting behind truckers sometimes when I'm pulling a trailer.  Gotta try to save some gas money for the bees you know  ;)
