The amout of food for winter is at same level here but bigger in Canada. They recommend in Canada 35-45 kg  sugarsyrup (65%) for winter and we use in Finland 20 kg as dry sugar.

We have here insulated winterboxes. Canadians have mostly noninsulated solid wood .
When I had  3 cm solid wood deeps during winter, food consumption was 50% bigger than nowadays  in styrofoam boxes.

45% x 0,66  = 30 kg.   ... Figure matches  with that figure   20 kg + 50% =30 kg

Our winter is longer than in Canada.
