Hi all,

Just wanting to get peoples thoughts on the one piece plastic Beetek frames.

I've just ordered a carton of them and then found out that they have a groove around the outside that would be a perfect hiding spot for small hive beetles.
Surely this would greatly reduce the effectiveness of  traps if they can hide around the edge of every frame.

Does anyone have any experience with them and if so are they a problem as far as SHB is concerned?

I was thinking of filling the gaps with some sort of compound but not sure if this is ok coming into contact honey and whether it would actually stay there.

As they are I can see problems.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

Here in N FL, if you put them in your hives the SHBs love them. Like you say, the slots on the frames are perfect hiding places. If you could plug up those slots, you could eliminate the problem. You want something that is light but not something the bees can chew through.
A plastic cover would probably be the best answer.
Maybe some manufacture could make a cap that can bee snapped in.

The fat bee man did a video about plastic frames
did not sound like he recommends them
send them back.
I think you'll be better off
