I want to add five more deep foundation frames and five more med. Frames for the five frame nuc I split a while ago. Right now they are 5 deep with 5 mediums on top. Would you add another 5 frame up or transfer them to a ten frame hive? I have two of these nuc in the same situation. I have 2 ten frame hive woodware complete that I can make with them. Or I could build more stackable nuc boxes and put the foundation frames in there. I want them to draw the fastest as the goldenrod is in bloom now and I wasn't expecting it so soon.

do you have any frames of drawn comb? not much comb gets drawn out this time of year. my experience has been that they tend to chew up foundation this time of year. if you don't have drawn comb add another box of foundation to the nucs & feed them. overwinter them & they'll explode in the spring.

I have another hive that I could possibly take from and put the empty foundation in it. I am going to make a couple deep nuc boxes today for when I do swap/add frames because I guess they will draw faster in them than a ten frame. The goldenrod has been in bloom here for about 2 weeks and I didn't even know it, so I hope they still draw to store that.

Rookie,  You got some good advice about getting or having pulled frames.  They just as soon backfill as pull foundation here this time of year.  A slow feed such as a jar with a few holes will get you more pulled than swarmed.  But some will pull it like spring time.  Just like everything it just depends and keep an eye on them.   On the golden rod, the early variety doesn't get worked as much as the asters and the later variety that will be coming up.  But with this year who knows mine are still getting a little clover to maintain on.
