feeder screen

I have been using the feeders available through brushy mountain that are 1 gallon bucket feeders with a small area of screen in the lid.  I would like to make some for this fall and I am unsure what size screen to use.  I have lots of 2-gallon buckets that will fit inside a deep box on top of the inner cover.  Does anyone know what size mesh would work and where I could order it?

I sent a note to Brushy Mountain, asking about the screen size. the "Info" person said they didn't know.  :(
If you have a lid to a 1-gal feeder, take it to the hardware store and see if they can tell you the mesh size.

Looks to be about 35 or 40 mesh.  I found a supplier (McMaster) that sells 2 square feet (enough for over 100 feeders) and was $18 including shipping.  The only thing I had found previously was about $100 per square foot.

I use regular screen wire. My logic (right or wrong?) is if the hole is big enough to stick their tongue through that's all they need. I use quart and pint jars. When I leave them on empty for a couple of days the bees begin sealing it shut with propolis. So my logic may be flawed.

Once you cut the hole in the bucket lid how do you attach the mesh screen? Is there a safe adhesive?
