Well, since it is in Tempe, AZ, I guess they consider them Africanized, so killing them may be the right thing to do, but calling the exterminator a beekeeper just because he was wearing protective gear is a big stretch, IMHO.

My words to my wife when that ran on the local station in FL: "not one beekeeper is going to be spraying those bees, that's a darn exterminator."

I wonder if the state has a policy that all swarms are to be destroyed? Whether they were africanized or not, it is highly doubtful that the swarm would have stung anyone that day. With a little bit of education to the players before the season begins, they could have played ball without being distracted. They would know that the bees are very gentle during swarming. A prepared message could be conveyed to fans, telling them details about swarming behavior. Most of the fans would probably have been fine sitting in their seat and watching the game, and the bees. After the game was over and the crowd was gone, a real beek could have gone in and hived the swarm, if they didn't leave first.

But instead, let's just kill them....

Not the way the bees were piling up under the fence, unless they drowned.

They were definitely killed off.  The guy in the beekeeper suit was actually an exterminator.  A little bit of a hubbub here in KC as it was at one of our games and the Manager Ned Yost wasn't really happy about it and let folks know about it.  I'll be at the stadium on the 16th through the 19th!
