Never made any, never used any. How do I make it? Honey and powdered sugar? d2

Put it another way. I plan to put safety cages on my queen cells,"if they build them". do I need to put anything in the cage or will the bees feed more than one queen through the wire for 2 or 3 days? don't think I will come as close to injuring the queen after she has hatched by taking the cage off the plastic foundation as I would before she emerges. what do you all think? d2

commercial powdered sugar has starch in it, and is not digestible by the bees.   Use your blender and powder granulated sugar if you need powdered sugar.
   I make "cakes" by adding a little water to a lot of sugar, mixing it with a hand held mixer until the moisture is evenly distributed, then place in oven at 200 degrees for about 4 hours..     My methods can be seen here;

   http://www.outyard.net/feeding.html

   You can buy fondant and commercial winter patties etc..    Leaving enough honey on is best. Feeding 2/1 syrup soon enough they can prepare, dehydrate and cap it is second, and plain table sugar is third.

   Edit;
   AHhh, for queen candy...    Again, powder your own sugar if you can....  If not, the amount of starch in the queen candy is not enough to pose a great threat to your bees..   I use powdered sugar and karo syrup.. adding powdered sugar until I have a stiff dough, then press it into the opening in the queen cages.

I placed a frame of eggs/brood in one of the nuc's that did not end up with a queen.it is a 10 frame medium with 6 frames of bees. hoping they will do some queen cells. They should pick the right cells with eggs next to young brood just hatched. Will update next Friday or Saturday. d2.
