sticky board questions

Hi,

I bought a screened bottom board for my hives.  It came with a plastic almost cardboard like square that you put under the screened bottom board.  I am doing this to check for mite numbers (if I have any).  I have not set this up yet under the hive.

I assume this should be sticky to the touch?
What could I add to make it sticky to keep the mites from walking off of it?

Chickenwing,
You can smear vaseline on it. Just use a thin layer. You will want to leave it there for 24 hours and then remove it and count the mites. You can do it for longer amount of time, just divide the count by the number of days you leave the board in.  60 mites per day for a strong hive is the threshold for treatment.

Ditto. I use oil pans instead. I do not use anything, most of the time, and the mites cannot climb up the sides. The pans are for killing SHB.
