Rurification

I'm considering combining a queenless nuc with a larger hive.   The nuc is in a medium with a follower board, so it will fit over the regular hive just fine.

When combining, I put a couple of sheets of newsprint on top of the lower/larger hive, then set the smaller one on top.   I get that.

My question is whether or not to leave the top entrance open to the nuc so they have air.   It's really hot here.   I was going to turn the entrance down [open] on the inner cover.    The lower hive has a lower entrance already.

Put screen wire over the entrances. That's what I do for the entrances. From that I have the best of both worlds. Air circulation and reduced entrances.

I'd give them a top entrance. At least until they have gotten thru the newspaper.

I run both top and bottom on all my hives, so when i combine each one gets one entrance open.

Always give every part of the hive air.  Yes, leave a top and bottom entrance.  If you don't have a way to do that, just put a stick under the top or under the bottom box and it will make an entrance....
