What is this flower?

It was blooming by the road and my bees were all over it. I did not jump the fence by the road for obvious reasons. It blooms red.

I had a guy with a master in horticulture tell me this was a wild poinsettia. The bees are wild over it and there is about an acre of it that I know of.

I agree it looks like wild poinsettia. I've only ever seen it once here.

yea save the seeds if you can. you can trade them for other bee plants like BeeBee trees or others. I would love totry some my self. always looking for forage for the hives to have at different times. right now I'm in dearth because nothing is blooming. so when you find something they like when nothing else is blooming. you have a advantage .

I hope to have him come by soon and for sure tell me for sure what it is and I will save the seeds off of it because it is practically the only thing blooming right now. I will mail it to people if I get a bunch

I wouldn't mind some myself. I plan on planting several different plants in the spring.

That's what I'm hoping to. Maybe wild but can it take cold and snow?

MIght be best to identify it before sending seeds hither and yon....last thing we need is more invasive plants propagating across the country due to a beekeeper seed share program ;-)

I am not sure what it is officially yet. Still waiting on my plant guy to show up but it is all over the road sides and the bees and friends are all over it.

if it is wild poinsettia its not a evasive introduced plant. southern zones( I think its 8 or nine or higher ) poinsettia plants flower and live years. I know they don't survive in cold climatis except in doors. wife and I had one that lived almost 8 years and got as big as a bear. 4 foot round and 8 foot tall. it bloomed every year and was amazing. was offered 500.00 from a friend for his office.
