Thinking about next Spring...

Moved to TN a few years ago and getting back into beekeeping down here.  All new equipment.  Have 3 hives going into the Fall, looking good with the 2 Deeps in each.

I'm concerned about the honey flow next April/May/June, for I only have frames with new plastic foundation.  I have several blocks of wax and have placed excessive wax on the supers to take the edge off the build-out when the time comes.  I did this with the Deeps this year and it has really helped.  The bees pull out the frames much much quicker with wax added.

When next Spring comes, what should I do and what should I expect?

New situation for me, any advice would be great!

Thx

Not sure of what you are asking. Sounds like you have painted the plasticell foundation for your supers. As you found out that helps. Do you have at least 3 supers for each hive? A good flow in TN can fill at least that much with having to draw out the comb.

Yes, I have the supers.  I thought about trying to draw some out this Fall, ahead of next Spring...but it's a pain.  I'll just wait and be as prepared as I can.

Appreciate your input.

painting the plastic with melted wax does indeed help. next spring as you install the supers spray the foundation with sugar syrup.

Glad I read this thread. I only have one set up supers per hive. I might want to invest in some more before next spring.

About how many supers should I have on there at one time or do I take gather the honey and put new ones on?

Hey b, Have more than you think you'll need. If you catch a swarm they'll draw an 8f deep out in 7-10 days during a good flow. When? It varies. I'll try to remember to shoot you a pm when it starts next spring. You'll be a couple of weeks ahead of me though.

Thanks. I plan on stocking up over Christmas and my birthday in January. Right now my bees are really growing and hopefully will fill out the supers in place soon. I might take one frame per box just to taste the honey but leave the rest for them over the winter.
