I am going out to the yards this weekend and staking and tying down hive stands...the darn cone of uncertainty for Matthew keeps creeping to the west and the Keys are in the cone as of this morning. Hopefully it will all be for naught but I will be too busy with prep around the house and for work later and need to get inspections done and storm prep this weekend....wish me luck

The season begins.  I hope you make it through.  Do any of the feral bees survive hurricanes in the Keys?

We haven't been hit by a storm in almost 10 years and even then it was a glancing blow.....they survive just fine Ace ;-)

That's good to hear.  I was just wondering if you do get one where you have to evacuate would it take out all the bees?

Up here on the Rim in Arizona we get regular 40-60mph winds all the time, especially in March, nothing new. in fact it's blowing 40mpn+ all last night gusts were 54mph at one point, and now it say 38mph on the digi readout. Never tied down, just place large boulder on top and all is good...so far.

I will say a prayer for yall. Hope all is well.

The latest NOAA forecast I find shows the Keys are spared the worst of it, but it is headed north.  Our friend in the Carolinas better batten down the hatches!
Winter is coming.

I can't say I hate the government, but I am proudly distrustful of them.

KeyLargoBees

Yep Mimbre its not the wind itself I am worried about its things falling on and knocking over the hives....limbs and coconuts and what not ;-)

And yes it looks like south Florida is going to miss the brunt of it....Jim up in Jacksonville will probably see worse weather than me ;-P

Even if y'all just catch the edges, it looks like this one is worthy of attention.  Keep dry.

Key,
Do ya have to anchor hives ? ?
Or is a lot of cinder blocks on top ? ?

Just getting word that Haiti has taken a helluva battering, and that southern Florida is due for a direct hit.  9ft storm surge etc.

Best of luck for the next 24 hrs or so.  Will be thinking of you.

How much of a direct hit will you be taking? I have been and will continue to pray for the whole region.

KeyLargoBees

It was a non event....I would think the people in central east coast and Jim up in Jacksonville had more impact from it than I did ;-P
