Plywood.???

It's heavy and doesn't last as well, but yes.  I've build many from flooring scraps.  I've never bought the wood to do it.  I do like 3/4" ply for lids.   It's heavy and stiff and doesn't warp easily.

put a good coat of paint on the outside and the top and bottom edges and you can use it for a few years, I know one guy that use's any wood that is big enough to build a super or nuc out of..., like MB said its scrap wood from construction jobs, anything free ;)

OSB swells too much when it gets rained on. You can't paint it
because the paint causes it to swell and peel.
MDF (medium density fiberboard) will work for boxes,
but you have to paint it first and it's VERY heavy.
I can't even lift a 4 X 8 sheet of 3/4" MDF by myself.

I'll stick with pine or when I can afford it, cypress :wink:
