I am trying to get into beekeeping in central Texas Hill Country near san antonio.

The package bee sellers near me are much more expensive than the online retailers that will ship.  I've also heard that some of the sellers near me have very aggressive bees.  So I was wondering if I should purchase from else where and have them shipped and if so who is reputable with good gentle bees.  The suppliers close to me are rweaver bweaver and thebeeplace all have websites.

Thanks for any help

Dont buy package bees, buy nucs to get started.  A nuc is more established.  There are more places around to get bees than those three websites.  You may have to drive an hour, but you can get nucs.

Have you tried to find a local bee club near you? Those people usually have the hook up on local bees.

When I was thinking about getting bees, I drove around would see some beehives close to a house and would stop and talk to them.  The next year I got 3 established hive.  The beek I had talked to had died and his daughter said he had told her to sell them to me and at a great price.
You can look in local papers, craigslist, and at your local beek meetings.  You can also get some frames and boxes also sometimes.

Good luck
