It will not let me post the video I took of the old hive. Anyway it is 3 years with basic neglect. No treatment for mites, no honey harvest, and such. Should I leave the hive bee, split it, or move it.

The boxes look to be fair, weeds have grown up around it but I have started clearing them off. The bees are gentle and seem to be very numerous.

It has been three years and you haven't touch it?  I am sure there are a whole lot of people that might want it.  Splitting would be my suggestion so you can get more but I am not sure you want more.

If your philosophy is treatment free, breed some queens from it.  If your philosophy is that bees will die untreated, then you should destroy it because it's bound to be sick and infested with mites...

I think I am going to split it. Obviously that is a good hygienic queen as the bees are still alive.

Post the video on YouTube and then link it.

I'll break a personal rule and post some computer advice on this 'problem'
if only to encourage an Admin to correct my post, as is their 'job'.

Use external links where possible adding some descriptive editoral so
folks can decide to go there, or not. Where video is involved, break the link.
www.https/youtube/whatever becomes www.https/yo utbe/whatever.
Photos should always be less than 500kB regardless of where linked as
many many people do not have the bandwidth to download large uploads
provided.
I am sure all this has been discussed before today buuut maybe  working
through it will help you and others understand why it is limits are placed
on web forums in giving all access, and staying in control of website costs.

On topic.
Where the woodwork is good, move it onto your apiary.
Assuming it is a find and so, available. Waiting a season to see it perform
under management could prove wise, and maybe avoid another loss.

Not enough detail.
Is it yours, or are you caring for it for someone?
How far away is it from your bees?
What is the initial goal?

The bees are booming out of it. Lots of orientation flights it looked like.

It is isolated from any other hive. The goal is to get a really good line of bees to increase the amount of hives I have. I would like to be treatment free.

Bill, I don't see where this is necessary.  If it was a problem for the forum wouldn't the administrator not allow it?

Then I would split it twice.  Split it in half wait a week and then split the queen side in half again.
Is there an issue with AHB in AL?

I would first move it to your apiary. Then multiply it in several ways, but you would for sure have the drones from it for any other queen mating that may take place.

I know you do not,"see"...an Admin would tho' an' maybe not be too  bothered as it is an end user worry
and so not a site issue as such. With the trend going
to mobile devices an update to 'rules' may be in order.
IF I was using a PC to browse I would have no issue, buuuut as for many at Tech level the convienence is a new issue.

I suppose a smart phone user considers it a convenience.  I consider it a device that consumes your life and probably the only piece of modern technology that has decreased productivity in the workplace.  Think of the limitations.  You are accessing the internet through a cell tower.  If an event happens it overloads with everyone trying to get through.  Ok for texting nonsense.

Sorry to be dense, but what does 'breaking the link' do?

To Idees question, is this a hive of yours or someone's abandoned hive that you are attempting to rescue? One concern if you know little about it would be the possibility of introducing disease into your apiary, even though they seem healthy.

tjc, if the link is correct, it downloads automatically, using bandwidth. If the link is broken, each user must make it complete to download it. It saves bandwidth for the forum and data usage for the user.

For touch screens the link is then dead, preventing
casual connect whilst scrolling...as just happened again
with LJ's link to a videoed dissertation.

...thanks Wally. Way too much for me to tap out whilst
using dead time waiting for Doc to call my card ;-)))
