Hello, I am moving tot Vermont in the upcoming fall for college, and I was wondering the beekeeping differences compared to my current residence of sunny california? I know there are harsh winters, and was wondering certain precautions to take in beekeeping on the east coast :)
eat cheese, plants trees, and save the bees

I think it would be a neat feature if you could sort members on this forum by location in the "members" section but I don't see that option. MODS!

Anyway, here's how I would go about it, and some of this you could do now.

I would google up a bee club (perhaps a "beekeepers association") that was local to my school. Try the town name, try the county name. I would make direct contact via email with the president of that club, introduce myself, and ask when/where they meet.  Ask if they have a "bee school" or similar new beekeeper outreach.  Then when I got there, I would attend meetings, make a couple friends, and ask local questions of the locals.

I would find out if my school had an entymology department, or agro-forestry maybe. Reach out in an email and find a prof who keeps bees. Some schools even have beekeeping courses. (WOW!)

Local folks will have local information, and beekeepers (almost) always are generous with their knowledge.

Matt,
That is something Robo would have to do if it is possible. Right ow I?m not going to ask him. Maybe in a few months you could bring this up again and we could see what happens.

Hanna,
Please update your location. It makes a difference when you ask a question as to what is the best answer. It is also required by the bylaws.
