I?m new to bees.  I have just set up my hives in the back pasture.  My bees will arrive Saturday.  I joined the local bee club and took their class.  I?m hoping for the best.

Which club?  NBA?  Omaha beekeepers?  As far as I know that's about it.

Good luck.

"In the back pasture"
Take notice in Michael's post,

""For the safety of the bees they should be where cattle won't rub on them and knock them over, horses won't knock them over and bears can't get to them.""
"Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me . . . Anything can happen, child. Anything can be"

Welcome to Beemaster.
Horses and bees is not a good mixture, especially for the horses. My cows do not bother my bees, they stay about 10 feet from them. Bulls can bee different. The ones I have now do not bother them but I used to have a very smart bull that I had to keep away from my hives. He could unlock diaper pin type gate locks in seconds.
After finding a gate unlocked that I had told my granddaughter to lock the previous evening, I locked it and walked all the way around the field looking for the cows. When I got back to where I originally saw the gate open, 100 yards away, I could see my bull with his head at the gate lock. Within seconds he had it open while I was watching. Smartest bull that I have ever seen.

The bees will be here in the pasture, but they are fenced away from the horses.

Welcome, I like horses and bees myself. Are there bears in your area?
Phillip

No bears in Nebraska, thank goodness.  I have horses and bees.  One bee was getting in the horses faces and then ours while we were setting up tipis for bee camp this year.  The horses actually worked up a lather.  Once we killed that one bee everything went back to normal...

Horsejody, how did things turn out for you and your bees?

Bob Wilson

Horsejody. Welcome to the forum. I have no horses, bulls, cows, or bears. Just cats. But they have grown tired of snatching the bees from the air.
