Is this a concern or ?
My 5 frame nuc from 2  weeks ago in its 10 frame hive

I have a small super ready if they need more room  but last week there was only 2 unfilled queen cups and the ten frames weren?t filled yet

I'm a newbee too, so you may want to get a second opinion, but that just looks like a little bearding to me.  I'd imagine it's getting pretty warm down there in Florida by now, and some of the girls are just hanging out on the porch and some are fanning to try and help the warm air inside the hive to exit.  The bees that are moving up and down and scraping at the hive are doing what's called washboarding.  No one is 100% sure why bees do this, but there are many interesting theories.

You may want to consider opening the entrance a to a wider setting. Depends on how cool your evenings are. I generally add a box when 80% of the box is drawn.

My theory on the porch bees is the house bees kick em out on nice day to get em out from under foot. Kind of like Mom used to do.

Hope that was helpful.

Porch bees .
I like it
I?ve got a hot hive next door and didn?t want robbing so I?ve left the entrance reduced - I got popped on the lip after that video so they may well be ready to fight for themselves.  :cheesy:

Ha, that's funny!  :cheesy:  When they're out in the evening, I always envision it as them lounging on the porch after a hard day's work, drinking some iced tea.

Salty,
It looks like a nice healthy hive to me. Nothing to worry about.

I opened her up today and saw all the activity necessary for a growing hive -
Van/Arky  I got stung on my foot.
This hive continued that (out front ) porch sitting when I checked at midnight.
I opened the reducer to the 4 inch opening
Anyone think I should elevate the top a little as we are experiencing 90 degree days?

Salty,
Do you have insulation in the hive top?  This helps keep the radiant heat out of the hive.
If so no. Bees evaporate water to remove heat. As it evaporates, it drops to the bottom where the bees blow it out of the hive.

Salty, I think I  saw a plastic sheet under the inner cover on your video.  Why a plastic sheet?

The bees need some air flow, they have to evaporate many pounds of water from the nectar and that takes ventilation.  Some air should escape from the top, that is why the hole is cut in the inner cover.  I would remove that plastic sheet unless you have a reason for it that I am not aware of.
Cheers
I have been around bees a long time, since birth.  I am a hobbyist so my answers often reflect this fact.  I concentrate on genetics, raise my own queens by wet graft, nicot, with natural or II breeding.  I do not sell queens, I will give queens  for free but no shipping.

Maybe I?m wrong, but I think it?s a queen excluder. Salty may have mentioned something on another post about putting it there so the queen didn?t get through the inner cover hole.

Agreed with Van.  Remove the plastic sheet or queen excluder, whatever it is until it is needed.

Also, imho - when bees are just hanging out and washboarding, it is because they have nothing to do and are bored.
Not beeing the "busy bees" they are supposed to bee. They Need something to do. No loitering allowed!
From the video, there appears a reasonable amount of bees in the box for them to be much busier then seen. I might suggest they are short on resources and that may be why they are just hanging out instead of working over all the frames. Consider a flash of syrup to spike them and put those bugs to work at least drawing comb. Once they are on it and progressing, watch them and put another box on with foundation to keep them working.

If weather is warm and fair, you should also flip the entrance reducer to the larger setting. Give them space to hang out in the entrance way and fan - put them to work.

When the lid goes back on, the bees will spend the next 3 days undoing most of what the beekeeper just did to them.

Thanks honey pump - I was gonna ur a medium on them today but didn?t see frames 1-2 and 7-10drawn and didn?t want to increase the hive yet.
Yes that?s a QE on top.

Do the sums. If the hive was a 5 frame nuc 2 weeks ago, then not all the brood that was in the nuc has hatched yet.
The first egg layed in the 10 frame hive has not hatched yet. you are not dealing with a heap of bees yet.
Don't make decisions for the bees, look for the signs that the bees tell you what is needed.
I will attempt to put up a couple of photos, but my IT skills are not great.
First one is some full hives on a warm evening, they need a bit more room.
Second is a single that has enough bees but not enough room to store the honey, so they put it in the lid, good sign they need a super

There have several responses about using a screened BB or probably a Double screen BB.  I am a bit north of you and arguably not as humid.  A DSBB and a screened top board allows air to circulate and it stopped my mold problem. Jim uses a sawdust blanket in the Top S year round and I am going to use this on some hives this year.

So I robbed a frame of brood and eggs to my slow hive.
My 3 hives are 10 feet apart each.
Will the hive that got robbed smell where the babies went and follow or no?

The bees won't care at all about brood being moved from one hive to another.
