Opened up one of my hives today and found some dead bees on top of the inner cover which is on top of the only super, which is empty. I moved down to the top brood box which was full of bees. I saw all stages of brood including eggs by the time I got to the third frame but they were too angry to continue. I could also see some capped honey on the tops of frames so everything seemed normal except the bees on the inner cover. Is this an indication of anything I should worry about?

Too hot up there between the covers.  Flip that inner cover over, so the entrance notch is up.  That will allow venting air movement between the covers.
When the lid goes back on, the bees will spend the next 3 days undoing most of what the beekeeper just did to them.

I don?t think my cover has a notch. I?ll have another look and flip if it does.

Mr Pollen, just curious, are those dead bees old, that is, is the hair worn off the top of thorax or bees of all ages?

I have been around bees a long time, since birth.  I am a hobbyist so my answers often reflect this fact.  I concentrate on genetics, raise my own queens by wet graft, nicot, with natural or II breeding.  I do not sell queens, I will give queens  for free but no shipping.

I didn?t look that close. They are no more than 2 weeks old based on the last time I opened that hive.
