Garden hives need to look nice.

Scavenged the copper roof from the previous version to clad the gables.  This one is double layered with cedar shingles and foam insulated.

Used some copper nails and wire to latch it to the super below.  We get high winds here!

The bottom is cracked because of MAQS treatment in progress.

A very nice decorative piece, and sure to be a good conversational item, when friends come over.

Thanks, everyone!

Was surprised that the weathered copper was so dark compared to the Eastern Red Cedar, which was coated with Linseed oil.

Anyway, it's progress from the version before.

Williams Sonoma charges $500 for a much lesser hive than this.

Very nice hive Michael. It's 8 frame boxes. Right?

Yes.  They make an attractive "garden" hive, though mine looks kind-of shabby.

But I think the key for in town is the temperament of the bees inside.  I can mow right up to these.
