Site prep began today on a new shop in the back yard.

Mary and I have decided to build garden hives for a little extra retirement income in a few years.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

Nice to hear; Sound like a good spring project.  Be sure to share photos of the progress along the way!

Aloha from wet and soggy Hawaii...

Thats great. I make and sell OA vaporizer guns, even sold and shipped to Hawaii JurasicApiary. Pays for the sugar.

Steve was really bragging on you. ✔️

I built my own a couple years ago. I am really proud of it.  I used an inkbird PID which is not necessary as there are other brands. It is just what was suggested to me at the time. I have it set up really good with the numbers, temperature wise, however I would not wish to build another. There was a lot of research involved. I would like to have a back-up just in case mine were to finally fail me. I will send a PM to you.

Slab for the new shop is now finished.  Richard Hernandez was my sub and Arturo did a great job finishing it.

20x12 feet -- not very big but I don't need any more room than that and it is nice addition to the property.

Now I will be have good lighting and plenty of electrical outlets!  I'll even be able to run my table saw at 240V.

My shop was half the garage before.

Changed my plans some.  Will put in a piece of brick wall 3' wide by 5' tall to put a little wood burning stove in there.

Building and repairing hives and equipment is done in winter, and I'll have plenty of scraps for kindling.

I wonder if Mary will bring me a sandwich.  ;-)

I am wondering if you thought this through...  It is going to take a lot of garden hives to pay for this project.  Doesn't sound like retirement to me. LOL

This sounds like my shop, and it will be as profitable as bees.  It will give me something to occupy my mind and  keep me from watching "The Bald and the UGLY".

FatherMichael

It'll keep me out of the Honky Tonks and bars. ;-)

Well that is a good thing then.

Every man needs a man cave. I get the best work done out there, repairing household items, gardening prep, making bee frames. My 12X16 is small, especially with the riding lawnmower, but I stick built it myself on a monolith slab, and you are right, Michael..
A good, permanent, shingled shed increases property value.

Thanks, Bob!

Sold my first hive today, the one we call Mary's Hive, which she finished in such a nice way.

Our accountant was not willing to deduct expenses until we actually got some sales.

We have to do big things now while we are still working.  In a few years, living off of retirement, a few sales of honey and hives (and maybe bees (there seems to be a shortage of bees around here)) will give us chances to eat out or go see the kids.

Thanks, medic.

Only broke even on this hive.  But needed to get a sale on the books.

I've given away a lot of honey, too! lol

Honey from cotton crystalizes fairly quickly in the jar.  It has a unique taste.

So, I'll need to do some education leading to sales.

People around here live in the middle of their hundreds and thousands of acres of cotton fields.

I hope this works out just as your hopes for this endeavor are concerned... keep up the egos work and keep it fun :-)
