Spring is just beginning to show here in middle Georgia. The bees are more active, and even though there is a large pond near by and a bird fountain in the yard, my bees are swooping around the yard, landing on the dirt and dead plants. I am assuming the want dirty water, full of minerals.

You are right bees do not like clean water they like water that has "stuff" in it.  I have made water with salt, chlorine, cattle minerals, in small amounts and they drank it They also like water that naturally grows algae.  Put a piece of wood and they will land on the preferably, rotten wood and suck water from the water soaked wood or use it to land on.

LOL, that is funny. And I was silently questioning the sanity of my neighbor when he had containers of algae laden water out for his bees to drink.
