+ how are the frames fastened to keep them from damage--frames & bees
+ are they usually insured
+ How are they shipped

PLEASE...add any comment or advice you feel I might use...I need lots of fuel for thought.

ALSO  where is the best place to buy drawn comb  ( if it can be bought ).

From what I've seen all of those things vary. Be sure to confirm all of those details with the seller ahead of time.

If you want to buy bees near Texarkana, contact Doc Rogers (drogers) on Beesource.  He's in Texarkana, AK and sells hives.

The 3 nuc boxes I've bought..

You have to pick them up.
2 were purchased in nuc boxes w/ 5 frames..  you keep the box & frames.
1 was purchased in a Med. Super..  frames transferred to my hardware.. original hardware returned.

I've read some require you bring all hardware..  they start the nuc.. you pick up at a later date.  Like Mike said.. lot's of variations.

Ken,

Did you buy your nucs from that gentleman in Thurmont? When you get a moment could you send me his contact info again? Thanks.

Hi Zoot.. Yes..  I bought my third nuc(Med.) from him.. ended up being almost 8 frames.  I've noticed his Italians fly and show more activity in cooler weather then the MH Italians..  his bees are very gentle.  He also recently won a honey taste contest  in Baltimore.  Last week he stopped by the farm..  said I should increase to 10 hives.. which was in line w/ what I was planning.  Going to make some tops & bottoms this winter to cut down some costs.  It's getting colder..  can't believe the season's over already.
