that's cool!  is it unusual for them to build a hive out in the open like that?

I got to hold this swarm today. There was a lot of bees and had built a lot of pretty white comb. Very nice catch you two.

Interesting, building a hive like that in the open.  I've actually seen that down here on a few oak trees twice before.  Colonies out in the open are usually quite deffensive, good capture.

This is the time of year that they start to bloom.  They trees were just pick last week and some before.  The bloom is early this year due to the warm weather and the main bloom is expected to hit in 2 weeks..

I caught one like this in the fall. I saved 2 jars of honey and left the rest for the girls. I put the comb in a deep but thay didn't last the winter.
