How do you know if you have proper ventalation. I'm doing a split this afternoon and the top cover i made fits very tight. Will this be a problem?

You're in Louisiana and it's already hot there - you can ventilate your hive by putting a stick under the top and letting it sit on the stick - not only does it ventilate the hive but also provides a top entrance.

Screened bottom board will help. If you can like tillie said prop open the lid and make a top entrance.

Assuming they have SOME ventilation, if they are bearding on the front they are either out of room or there is not enough ventilation.

Absolutely nothing. If you had a way to stop her the drones couldn't get out. If they need to mate a virgin queen, she wouldn't be able to mate.

Are you planning to confine the bees? If so, for how long? For what purpose?

a queen will not leave a hive without a good reason, she won't just part the hive, don't worry
