I'd like to hear from you regarding your experiences.   Since I own no land, I will start my first three colonies in a suburb of Milwaukee.

I'm afraid of there not being sufficient floral sources.  On the other hand, I hear lots of success stories from urban beekeepers.

Can any experienced urban beekeepers shed some light for me on this?

Thanks in advance.

:)

If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Sweet!  I will have to say this is clever.  This is something I can work with.  My problem is I don't know the plants.  I suppose a good beekeeper will have to learn to be a "hack" botanist.  It says that Cedar/Juniper, Alder and Maple are blooming now.  I knew that Maple was an early bloomer, along with pussie willow, but there are no near marshy areas.  I really had no idea that this area held Juniper/Cedar.

Way to approach a "problem" from a different perspective.

I have had bees in the city for the last 33 years and they have always done well except when they got sprayed with Malathion when the city was fogging for mosquitoes at 2:00 in the afternoon, when the bees are out and the mosquitoes are not.  They have always produced a good honey crop.  People plant a lot of flowering plants in town and tend to water them all summer.

>Greenwood is a city?

No.  It's a town and I live well outside it.

>Do you mean Lincoln?

That's where I have them in the city currently. In the past I've had them in Omaha Ne, Bellevue Ne, Mitchell Ne, Laramie Wy and Brighton Co.
