Using essential oils as swarm lures?

Has anyone ever heard of using oil of anise or oil of peppermint as a swarm lure?  If so how do you go about using it?  An old timer told me they use to use these 2 but couldn't remember how to do it. Any info would be appreciated.

I used lemon grass oil. I put 5 to 10 drops on some drawn comb and in about 3 to 4 days there was a swarm in it.
