This am, I noticed some bees cleaning out dead bees, and a few 2-3 crawling on the gound...Is this normal behavior?  God I am like a worried new mommy...forgive me...I have had the hive barely one week...My plant is to open it up for inspection this Wednesday...oh my...

it's normal.  bees die.  housekeepers clean them out.  as long as it's not 100's, you are ok  :-).

I think it's amazing to watch them carrying the dead bees out - one little bee carries a bee her same size and carries her quite a distance with great starting and stopping effort until she finally deposits her somewhere away from the hive.

It's sad to watch the ones on the ground, dying outside the hive and saving the mortician bees their work - I always think about Eskimos and ice floes.

Sigh, methinks there is much to learn from bees!

Thank you all for your answers...
